True, the astounding CGI Autobots out-act Megan at every turn (only a lonely lawnmower would care) when she joins Shia, but in truth it’s the machines, not actors, who matter here.Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an arcade action game in the style of a series of cinema hits, set in the popular Transformers universe. He then finds he holds the key to the destruction of Decepticons.Ĭonfused? Simply go with the flow while director Michael Bay (certain to win an Oscar for noisiest picture) ignores storytelling in favour of ample action, using a megabucks budget that could pay off Britain’s national debt.īay’s direction may have the subtlety of sexed-up elephants mating in a telephone booth.īut Bay (and fellow-producer Steven Spielberg) know their teenage male audience and have the cameras caressing Megan Fox like a lover. Shia goes to university but soon quits to join the good Autobots who are now working with the US military in the top-secret team NEST. Shia LaBeouf returns, and Megan Fox is back too, but there is nothing even remotely girly about the crash-bang-wallop affair that kicks off with a thump with 10 minutes of metal-mashing and stunning explosions before the plot kicks in. Now the critic-proof sequel strikes back with a gaudy extravaganza that’s much the same but bigger, noisier and more senseless, delivering even more-slam bang action and sizzling special effects to delight teenage filmgoers.
